Allow the use of family email addresses on member mailings. When running a letter in Formation for students, have a check option on the selection information screen that allows you to choose family vs member email.

We've got a couple of stories planned regarding the storing and sending of multiple family e-mails. They aren't too far down on the prioritized list. Multiple family e-mails is some thing we've received suggestions before. However this request seems a bit different. Help me understand this situation better. If you wanted to send the e-mail to the family address - wouldn't it be better to create a family letter to start with?

generally yes, but, in formation or school say... perhaps you want to send something to all the students in a class / session- some type of home work assignment, or permission form.. each student needs a copy.. you want to use the student report..

I have had this issue arise with clients as well and can see a need to send to a family e-mail address on a member/student/parent-guardian report.

I had created a email report under student and I had to recreate under family, because I did not have the option to send to the family email for the specific students I needed to send the email to. So, I agree, adding the option to send to family email would be great.

We need to be able to add additional email addresses to the "family" screen, a capability which is now present on the "member" screen. Separating multiple email addresses on the same line with either a comma or semi-colon results in errors when exporting the family email addresses into constant contact. THIS IS CRITICAL FOR US!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Can we have one or two extra email spaces to key in email addresses. Several people in our database would like to add more than one email address. This would also help as we capture email addresses and merge into constant conract. We send many constant contacts and need to make sure we send to all email addresses our clients give us. Thank you

Thanks for allowing multiple family emails. However, when one tries to export this into Excel (or as a CSV file), the family e-mails are not separated into separate columns. Thus when trying to import it into outlook or our e-mail provider's web-based software, these programs don't recognize the multiple emmails. Thanks, Paul, for providing a workaroud. However, the programs would be better if they would do this automatically (taking out the quotation marks), so as to separate each email automatically.

We would like this capability, too. We have run into this in Formation when wanting to send emails to catechists or parent volunteers. The selection list was created under catechist or parent/guardian reports in order to select just Mom or Dad but then all the emails need to be on the members' email list to send an email and often times it's a duplicate of the family email. Consider the new option might use member email if available, otherwise use family email - and possibly even a selection to send to both for example if selecting a group of teens for an event, the teens could get the email as well as their parents. Right now we send those as two separate email batches. And lastly, although the member email list allows multiple emails - for example, a catechist who would like to receive emails at home and at their work address, the email currently only goes to the first email in the list.

I also use Constant Contact for emails, for several reasons.

It has better capabilities for including graphics and live links in messages.

It allows for multiple lists (so I can create and maintain a student list as well as a parent/catechist list for example) and multiple emails (and the recipients can sign themselves up with additional emails as well). When I send a message and select multiple lists, it automatically elminates any duplicates among the lists for that email. The PDS process for linking to and maintaining contact lists is great!

It eliminates our problem with kickbacks when our IPS thinks we are sending spam, since Constant Contact has arrangements to prevent that problem.

Thanks,

We’re working on several email related issues for version 7 and we’re asking for additional feedback.

So far we will be implementing:
1. Multiple family email addresses
2. Sending multiple letters if multiple email addresses have been entered (instead of just to the first one)
3. Sending member letters to the FAMILY email address(es).

Is it sufficient to simply have a list of family email addresses which is kept separately from the member email addresses? Another alternative under consideration is allowing some member email addresses to be designated for family use. In this scenario you would mark a member’s email ALSO for use for family communications. The list of family emails could also contain entries which were not linked to any specific member.

Would a new screen that combines all family and member email addresses together in one place be beneficial? To what extent?

Please let us know if you have other suggestions. Thanks.

Well - this is listed as a popular topic, but the last replies seem to be a year ago. Any chance that this change can be made in the near future - being able to choose family email if the member does not have one listed (or a quick posting to allow us to copy family emails to all the members' pages?

Hi Ninette. Yes this is a popular topic and it is over a year old. The R&D team has been working really hard on some diocesan solutions so we haven't been able to devote as many resources to the parish products. We are working on some of these email issues now and they are schedule for release as part of version 7 some time next year.
